TO WHOM SHOULD WE PRAY?
Our prayers should be addressed only to the true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • 1 Timothy 2:5-6 - For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time.
  • Isaiah 45:20 - "Assemble yourselves and come, draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.
HOW SHOULD WE PRAY?
Prayers for spiritual blessings should be requested unconditionally, believing they shall be granted. We should ask God to provide other gifts (such as those for our own welfare and the welfare of others) to us only if they are according to His will.
  • 1 John 5:14-15 - And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him.
  • Luke 18:13 - But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!'
WILL OUR PRAYERS BE ANSWERED?
In His own way and in His own time, God has promised to answer prayers that we offer with faith and confidence (John 2:4; Isaiah 54:7-8).
  • Matthew 21:22 - And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.
  • John 16:23 - In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name.
  • Mark 11:24 - Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].
  • 2 Ch 7:14 - If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
FOR WHAT SHOULD WE PRAY?
Forgiveness of sins, thanksgiving, to glorify God, spiritual blessings, bodily blessings, comfort, peace, etc.
WHERE SHOULD WE PRAY?
Everywhere, both in public and in private.
  • 1 Timothy 2:8 - I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
  • Matthew 14:23 - And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
  • Matthew 6:6 - But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
WHEN SHOULD WE PRAY?
Daily.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:17 - pray constantly,
  • Psalm 55:17 - Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
  • Psalm 50:15 - and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.
FOR WHOM SHOULD WE PRAY?
All who are in need. We should pray only for the living, not the dead.
  • 1 Timothy 2:1-2 - First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way.
  • 1 Samuel 7:5 - And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.
  • 1 Samuel 12:23 - As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.
  • Numbers 21:7 - Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
